Welcome to Monster Milestones! My name is Jenn. I live in beautiful British Columbia with my husband and two boys. I’ve been a physiotherapist for over 20 years and have worked the last 10 years in paediatrics. I’ve worked with children from birth-18 years {along with their amazing families!} and enjoy the fun and challenges that kids always bring to our sessions.
I believe strongly in the power of movement. It’s one of the first ways that babies learn and interact with their environment and it continues to play a major role in our growth and development throughout our lives. Not only does movement have a major impact on our general health and wellness, but it’s also strongly tied to our emotions, behaviours, learning, decision making, and so much more!
I hope that this blog will provide you with some fun and creative ideas to optimize your child’s gross motor skills and participation in movement activities. Even short periods of intentional activities throughout the day can make a big difference in your child’s skills, so just fit it in when you can. Whether it’s some playground time during the day, a dance party before dinner, or a little yoga before bed, there are lots of ways that movement can be integrated into your daily routines.
Movement activities are also the perfect time to connect and bond with your child. There’s no better way to get your child moving than to move with them. Above all, I hope these activities provide some fun time together that you both will treasure!
Lastly, although I’m a registered and licensed physical therapist, the ideas presented on this blog are for informational purposes only. They are NOT intended to replace skilled therapeutic assessment and intervention and are for general guidance and inspiration only. If you’re concerned about the development or functional abilities of your child, I encourage you to make an appointment with your family doctor or paediatrician or check out your local child development centre or private PT/OT clinic. Always listen to your parent instincts!
